Charlotte Stoppelenburg (1979 alto/mezzo-soprano) charlottestoppelenburggraduated from the Utrecht and Cologne Conservatory of Music and attended master classes of, among others, Brigitte Fassbaender, Julia Hamari, Kurt Widmer and Henk Smit. In Cologne she received regular vocal coaching from Edda Moser and Henner Leyhe.

Her repertoire is very wide, ranging from early to contemporary music. She is regularly invited as a soloist in oratories in the Netherlands and Germany and at national choral events such as ‘Grootkoor’- Concertgebouw Amsterdam and ‘Scratch Requiem Leiden’). She sang Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine, Bach cantatas and Passions (St. John’s Passion, St. Matthew’s Passion), Mozart’s Requiem and Coronation Mass, the Requiem of Duruflé, the Gloria of Vivaldi, Masses by Rossini, Gounod, Janaçek, Zelenka, Schubert, Schnittke’s Faust Cantata and Lauda per nativita of Respighi.  She was a guest member of the opera ensemble and Opera Studio of the Opera of Cologne 2006-2007, where she sang various first and supporting roles. A memorable performance was her interpretation of the main role of Künneke’s operetta ‘Die Ehe im Kreise’ that was recorded for the WDR- radio. In the Musiktriennale of Cologne 2007 she performed the Folk Songs by Berio, also recorded for the WDR-radio. She worked with orchestras like the WDR-Rundfunkorchester, Gürzenich Orchestra, North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, Amsterdam Promenade Orchestra, National Philharmonic Orchestra (members of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra), Camerata Amsterdam, Philips Symphony Orchestra and with conductors like Marcus Creed, Vladimir Jurowksi, Jurjen Hempel, Jan Stulen, Michael Tabachnik and Jules van Hessen.

Charlotte also performed regularly at chamber music festivals like the Grachtenfestival Amsterdam (2008) and Musikalischer Sommer Ostfriesland (2008). With her sister Josefien (soprano) she forms the duo Unique Harmony of Two Voices. In 1997, the sisters were the first to win the Princes Christina Competition for vocalists after which they built up a national and international reputation. They are regularly seen and heard on Dutch national television and radio. Concert tours have taken them to the United States, Venezuela, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa. The exceptional way their voices blend, perfected by outstanding individual technique and years of experience together has enabled them to reach a large audience.

At present, Charlotte regularly performs the mono-opera ‘Le Bel Indifférent’ (libretto by J. Cocteau) that was especially written for her by composer (and father) Wim Stoppelenburg. With this production she partook in the Dutch International Chamber Opera Festival 2009. Her interpretation will be broadcasted on Cultura Television and will be performed in several Dutch theaters this upcoming season. Furthermore, among her activities she is arranging a concert with Camerata Amsterdam to sing the Stabat Mater by Pergolesi in the Bach-version (Psalm 51) and the Stabat Mater by Vivaldi. March 2012 she will sing the principal mezzo-part in a staged performance of Händel’s Theodora (Switzerland). In December 2011 she will debut in the Chicago Symphonie Hall by singing the solo-alto part of Händel’s Messiah.
